Welcome to Summ It Up Accountancy

Providing Services as Individual as You are

For every client we look at your individual needs, what you want to get from your accounts and bookkeeping and, we build our services and fees around this.  Whether fixed or flexible, we don’t have a standard tariff for most of our services, the fees are designed around your needs.

Why use Summ It Up Accountancy

I set out to offer a personalised bookkeeping and accountancy service for small businesses, and with just a handful of clients, Summ-It Up was started in 2009.

No person is the same so I decided to apply that theory to businesses; what accounting needs one business has are not necessarily the same as its neighbour.

So that’s what I did, and still do to this day. For every client, we look at your individual needs, what you want to get from your accounts and bookkeeping and we build our services and fees around this. Whether fixed or flexible, we don’t have a standard tariff for most of our services, the fees are designed around your needs.

We prefer to come and see you (in our local area of Martock, Yeovil and surrounding villages) or with the use of technology, we can meet face to face online for regular updates.

In a nutshell:

  • Professionally qualified

  • Offering a personalised approach

  • Individually tailored service to each client

  • Start up companies

  • Free initial appointment to see how we can best suit your needs

Founder

“Basically, I love numbers, and have always enjoyed those “Hallelujah” moments when things balance. I have worked in various large companies and whilst working full time, I studied towards the AAT qualification which I gained in 2008 and became a full member later that year. In 2009 I founded Summ-It Up, focusing on visiting clients on-site to produce that hassle-free service we all want.

As well as working in an accountancy firm, my background has covered a variety of industries including dealing with Sales Invoices for a large car transportation company, purchases for an alcohol wholesaler and then progressing to managing the project team, coordinating the reporting on all the returns and ullage, and supervising the implementation of a new software system. Helping to sort problems and backlogs is a passion of mine.”

Do you ever have one of those days? You know the ones - where you have just a couple of simple things to do but everything goes wrong!! Be it personal or business they happen.

Well we had one of those days over the summer 😢 - Opticians appointments to start the day - thanks to a very bored toddler I gave up on trying to chose my new glasses before all hell broke loose 👀, this followed very quickly with a gas leak so had abandon the house to wait for the wonderful people from National Gas Safety to came out and now we have no gas until our pipes are fixed!! 🔧

So this was a personal wash out of a day - but, unfortunately, they can happen just as easily in your business.

That is where budgets and cashflows can come into their own. Yes, you can use them on a regular basis to make sure you are meeting your targets, and tweak as needed to make sure your business stays on track 🚉

But how can they help when one of those days happen? Well having a budget and keeping on top of your bookkeeping can help you have the confidence to know if you have that spare cash to deal with the laptop that has going wrong, or that piece of equipment that just decided it had had enough - in fact this can be included in the budget and cashflow so you always know where you stand.

A little bit of compromise, patience and re-jigging and we a still managed a nice family dinner - so help yourself stay in control of your business - whatever the size - with a little bit of planning. 😀

Just out of interest, how do self employed parents cope with the school summer holidays? 🌞

You may have noticed we have been a bit quiet for a few weeks, and Summer Holidays is the main reason!!

So this is a new thing in our household 😀 William started PreSchool in March and now we are in the summer holidays, I am realising juggling can be fun!! 🤹‍♀️

I had a meeting yesterday, with William at home. He was a very good boy, and apart for being a bit noisy enjoyed meeting new people, and loved doing his 'work' while we were talking, and some very accommodating clients as well 😀

Don't get me wrong, I would not trade a single second, even with the 'terrible twos' tantrums, and he still goes to Nursery one day a week so I have some catch up time.

Now I am very lucky, I have parents just up the road who are on had to have William for meetings, or William comes with me at times 😀 and I have planned my work to be very quiet over the summer holidays.

But what happens when you cant do this? How do you cope with the juggling act?
